Dorrington, California is a hideaway in Calaveras County, California. With a population of a little over 600 residents it was initially recognized as Cold Spring Ranch until 1902. Dorrington rests on California State Route 4 and was previously a stopping destination byway of the toll road in the middle of Murphy, California and Ebbetts Pass, frequently noted as a resort for guests to what is now known as Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Dorrington is the place where the celebrated Pony Express formerly rode as well. The county is filled with natural wonders and a remarkable past. Cold Springs Ranch was the original name of this small wonder. The name changed when the post office was inaugurated in 1902.
